How To Start A Capsule Wardrobe And Not Look Like Everyone Else

We have received this question a few times now because well, it's a really good one. How do you start a capsule wardrobe or pair down your wardrobe and not end up dressing like everyone else? Of course, we are all unique and don't aim to look like the masses, but hey that's the way it goes sometimes. When something is gooood everyone knows about it, but there are ways to keep your uniqueness and set yourself apart in the world of good ideas and dressing minimally. Let's just get right to it:

IF YOU THINK IT, IT WILL COME - Firstly, if you are trying not to look like everyone else - you probably won't look like everyone else. We tend to listen to our inner voices when it's fashion or life-related. So if you are worried, good - you are already one step down - look at you go!

YOUR BODY IS YOUR BODY - The best part about our bodies all being so amazingly unique and different, is we are unique and different. When it comes to clothes, that special uniqueness helps make clothes look different on everybody and every body. So when you order something and it looks different on you than it did on the model, amazing!! Because guess what, you halfway to NOT looking like everyone else.

KEEP IT PERSONAL - Go with the items you need, that pair well together and work for the season. But don't forget your personality as you pair down and capsule it up. Maybe that looks like you bringing in a few key trendy pieces each season to layer and mix things up, or you get fun with your shoes or accessories. Capsule and minimal wardrobes look different for everyone, it's all trial and error till you find a recipe that works for you.

GET CRAZY - Don't be afraid to get crazy with your styling. The smallest things can make a really big impact. You could probably wear the same White Crewneck Slit Tee every single day for 5 days and if you style it differently no one would really even notice. Simple things like tucked or untucked, under a strappy dress, with different bottoms or a tied handkerchief around your neck can change up something basic big time.

Basically, the only way to NOT look like everyone else is to just be you, because really that is your super power (in life and in style).

Is there anything you do to stand out while doing a capsule wardrobe?

Great suggestions! I’ve been struggling with this myself. Going with your Keep it Personal point, I’ve found that accessories are key. Switching it up with different necklaces, bracelets, or scarves works well. Getting creative by making your own accessories (search DIY accessories on Pinterest) makes it even more personal. I’ve also been thinking about my hair as an accessory by experimenting with different and fun ways of fixing my hair to complement outfits. One of the great things about having a small wardrobe is the time it frees up for creative efforts! I think the most important thing is to have fun with it – Get crazy is right on.
