You've probably heard a lot about them here and there, and maybe even done a few yourself? Since we just watched our friend Morgan from The Garment go through another inspiring 10 x 10 wardrobe challenge alongside a couple other stylish ethical fashion enthusiasts. We felt like it was time for us to sit down and explain the different types of wardrobe challenges you can dive into and why you should try at least one (if not all of them).
10 X 10 CHALLENGE #10x10Challenge
What Is It?
Morgan from @thegarmentlife herself says:
It's an amazing challenge started by my pal @leevosburgh, now joined by the iconic and lovely @caroline_joy, to experiment with the capsule idea. It's fun, free, and most importantly involves connecting with a wonderful group of women.
How Do To Start One:
Morgan from @thegarmentlife herself says:
You pick 10 items (shoes count, gym stuff accessories and loungewear do not), wear only those items for 10 days and make as many outfits as you can make in different variations for those 10 days.
PS. Morgan is wearing The Raglan Scoop Neck in the above photo + her past #fall10x10
Why You Should Try One:
First, like Morgan said above, it's free. You simply pick from the versatile items you already own (and love) and maybe if you feel you are missing something you add that is as one of your 10. You can do it anytime or join during a challenge and be part of this growing and super supportive community.
Join The Challange As A Community:
Follow @thegarmentlife , @leevosburgh and @caroline_joy and then next time they host a #10x10challenge join in!
CAPSULE WARDROBE
What Is It?
A capsule wardrobe is all about practicality, it's a mini wardrobe filled with versatile items that you love. It's about picking a select few pieces at the start of the season and only wearing those items in different variations all season long. The combination and amount are different for everyone (dependant on your lifestyle).
How Do To Start One:
1. You start by cleaning out your closet, pull out everything you wear and love out.
Pack up things that aren't for this season, get rid of things you never wear and pack away the maybes (they will become get rid ofs once you forget about them).
2. Then you need to decide if you have holes to fill, not actually holes (unless you have a lot of those then you should go ahead and do that). Do you need a new pair of pants? How many sweaters will you actually wear? Another colour in your favourite top?
3. You need to lay out how many outfits you need a week and for what you need to wear those too. Do you need 3 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of dress pants, 3 t-shirts, 3 sweaters, 3 buttons downs, 1 hoodie, etc? It very much depends on how you spend your days.
Why You Should Try One:
It's an amazing exercise that shows you how little you actually need to have a great wardrobe. It also helps you really refine your style and teaches you to stick with what works for you, your body and your lifestyle.
30 DAY WARDROBE CHALLENGE
What Is It?
We'd say it's a cross between a capsule wardrobe and a smaller 10 x 10 challenge since you only have to commit to 30 days instead of a full season and it's only 2 more days than the 10 x 10 but a few more items are involved. But it's also a little different since for 30 days you only wear things that are already in your closet and you refrain from shopping entirely.
How Do To Start One:
1. Don't shop for 30 days, and only wear the items you own and love.
2. Easy right?
Why You Should Try One:
It's actually a really good way to start cleaning out your closet as it will show you what you really LOVE and get a lot of use out of and on the other hand it'll show you the items you've avoided all those 30 days - and they will be much easier to get rid of.
What do you think? Have you tried any of these wardrobe challenges? Have you ever wanted to?
