In all tops, the key areas for a good fit are your shoulder width and chest circumference.
If a piece of clothing fits you well in these key areas you can then go on to focus on how it fits in other areas - from that point its more based on personal preference and unique comfort.
The two key areas to focus on fitting are...
1. THE SHOULDER WIDTH - you want the shoulder seam of the garment, to line up with the tip of your shoulder.
2. THE CHEST - the chest of the garment should lay nice, you want to avoid to much bunching or pulling (when possible).
OF COURSE, none of our bodies are the same and sometimes it's just not possible to get a good fit on both 1 and 2.
SO in that case, focus on getting the shoulder seam of the garment to meet the tip of your shoulder. A shirt that pulls a bit in the chest never really hurt unless it actually hurts, then that's a definite no.
If that is not possible, focus on getting the chest to fit and let the shoulder seam of the shirt fall off your shoulder a bit.
The key is to get one of these two items fitting perfectly on you body - sometimes both are not possible and THAT'S OK!
Not that these aren't important for a good fit, but these areas are more dependant on your specific body type and what you feel comfortable showing off//or hiding.
Those next areas to focus on are....
3. THE WAIST AND HIPS - somethings you want it fitted in these areas, sometimes you really don't.
4. THE SLEEVE OPENINGS - usually you want at least a cm or two around the opening of a short sleeve shirt - too much tightness in the short sleeves isn't comfortable.
4b. THE SLEEVE LENGTH - this isn't as important as a good roll of a sleeve fixes to long sleeves and sometimes a shirt is meant to have shorter sleeves, or you can make it look like its suppose to be.
5. THE BODY LENGTH - the length of the top on your body. Maybe you like it long or short - a personal preference point.
NONE of our bodies are the same so never ever try to get the same fit as the model - but use this as a bouncing off point.

It's always important to check in with your measurements, and keep an updated list on your notepad. This will make online shopping so much easier...
1. YOUR SHOULDER WIDTH - with your back straight, have someone measure from your shoulder tip to shoulder tip.
2. YOUR CHEST - using a measuring tape, measure around the full circumference of the widest part of your chest (you could also use your bra measurement for this)
3. YOUR WAIST - wrap the measuring tape and measure around your naval (keep your back straight).
4. YOUR TORSO - from the tip of your shoulder measure down to the top of your fave pants.
5. YOUR HIPS - wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your behind/hip area.
6. YOUR INSEAM - measure from your crotch to ankle.
These are YOUR unique measurements, mark them down and use them as your standard.
